Fr. Stephen Blaxton was born on December 4th, 1985, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio where he graduated in 2008 earning a Bachelor of Science in Mental Health and Human Services. Fr. Stephen worked in Catholic secondary education at Villanova Preparatory School in Ojai, California and St. Bernard's Catholic School in Eureka, California between 2008-2012 before entering seminary. He pursued seminary studies at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit earning a Bachelor of Philosophy in 2014 and Master of Divinity in 2018. In addition, he received a Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology from the University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy in 2018. Fr. Stephen was ordained to the priesthood on May, 31st 2019 by Bishop Walter Hurley. His previous assignments include parochial vicar, St. Dominic Parish, Saginaw (2019), chaplain of Saginaw Valley State University (2019), and pastor of Holy Family Parish, Sandusky (2020-2024).

Laura Wilkowski has been the principal at Saint Brigid Catholic School since 2018. Prior to becoming principal, she taught middle school science and sixth grade Western Hemisphere, Religion, and Spanish. She has taught for four years as the elementary science specialist and did the after-school science club. Prior to her experience at Saint Brigid, she served as teacher-in-residence at Virginia Commonwealth University for four years, Science Specialist and elementary teacher for Richmond Public Schools. Laura holds a BA in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Science Education, and a Post Master's Certificate in Administration and Supervision. Laura and her husband, Stephen, have three children who all attended Saint Brigid Catholic School.
Donald Maloney

Donald has 24 years of experience with Heritage High School in Saginaw. He has taught Earth Science and Physical Science for five years, taught Health and PE for many years, and has coached football and track for many years.
Mr. Maloney loves spending time with his family. His wife Heidi, son Joseph, and daughter Jillian enjoy doing movie nights, game nights, watching and playing sports, and vacationing together! Their favorite vacation was Zion National Park in Utah. He is a sports enthusiast, especially Notre Dame! (Go Irish!) His family loves animals. They have an Australian Shepherd Melbourne who loves chasing footballs and going for walks. They even had two goats for twelve years: Norwegian Dwarfs Goldie and Cocoa Puff. Their home Parish is St. Agnes of Freeland. Donald said that he felt he was being called to share his faith with others and is very excited to put his faith to work at St. Brigid.

Angelina Mitus began at Saint Brigid School in 2021 as the Coordinator of Marketing & Communication for the School & Parish before taking the role of Office Professional in 2022. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Michigan State University and a Masters of Social Work from University of Michigan. Angelina worked in the social work field before starting her family and staying at home with her children during their younger years.
Angelina and her husband have three sons who all attend Saint Brigid Catholic School. They have been members of Saint Brigid Parish since moving to Midland in 2011.
Corie VanSumeren

Ms. Corie has worked in restaurants since she was 16 years old, in every capacity of a restaurant including a dishwasher up to the General Manager. She has an associates degree in English and Biology and is currently completing her Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, majoring in Social Science, anticipating on graduating in December 2023. No student will go hungry on Ms. Corie's watch. She prides herself on serving amazing food that the kids eat and enjoy.
She also serves as the Athletic Director for the school ensuring a smooth sports program for the kids to enjoy.

Susie Hollingshead

Susie has been the kindergarten teacher at Saint Brigid Catholic School since the 2001 school year. Susie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University in 1986. Her first teaching job was head teacher in the three-year-old class at the Y.M.C.A. in Indianapolis, Indiana. After moving to Midland in 1988, she taught kindergarten at Siebert Elementary until 1994. The birth of her second child found her choosing to become a stay-at-home mom for the next six years. During this time, Susie was able to continue to work with children. She did daycare for three families while living in Saint Louis, Missouri. After returning to Midland, Susie worked at Saint John’s Episcopal Cooperative Preschool as a teacher’s assistant until coming to Saint Brigid Catholic School in 2001.
Susie received eighteen credit hours of graduate instruction from Saginaw Valley State University in the areas of reading and early childhood development. She takes continuing education to stay current with the best educational practices. Susie enjoys camping and fishing with her family. This combined with teaching makes for a full and rewarding life.
Amanda Heminger
First Grade

Amanda is the first-grade teacher at Saint Brigid Catholic School. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education. Amanda continues to participate in education classes to stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in education. Amanda attended Catholic School at Auburn Area Catholic School, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Nouvel Catholic Central High School then attended Bay City Western High School. She is a longtime parishioner at St. Gabriel Parish in Auburn. There she is actively involved as a cantor and extraordinary minister of the Holy Communion. Amanda and her family all live in Auburn. She enjoys traveling, reading, crafting, watching Disney movies, and spending time with her family and friends.
Katherine Schilling

Kathy Schilling is a lifelong Catholic who attended Queen of the Miraculous Medal Elementary School, Jackson Catholic Middle School, and Lumen Christi High School in Jackson, MI. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in education and has over 30 years of experience in teaching in Michigan's public school system. She has been a parishioner of St. Brigid since moving to Midland in 1997. Kathy loves teaching and sharing her faith so much that at every parish she has been a member of she has volunteered as a catechist. Kathy married her husband, Brian, during Sunday Mass at St. Brigid in 2021 and they reside in Midland. They have raised seven children to adulthood and currently have six adorable grandchildren.
Michelle Twigg

Michelle Twigg grew up in the Metro Detroit area, where she attended Guardian Angels Catholic School (K-8) and Bishop Foley Catholic High School (9-12). From there Michelle went on to Oakland University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. In 2014, Michelle had her son Ethan and they moved to Alpena, Michigan where she taught split classes, standard classes and math at All Saints Catholic School to grades 2-7. In 2019, Michelle and Ethan moved to Midland and she took the position as the fourth-grade teacher at Saint Brigid Catholic School. Ms. Twigg feels very blessed to be working with a community of amazing professionals.

Sara has been the 5th-grade teacher at Saint Brigid Catholic School since 2016. She graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a double major in Elementary Education and Social Studies and a minor in Language Arts. She lives in Auburn with her husband and their two cats, Fred and George. Sara continuously feels blessed to be working with such an amazing community of staff, students, and parents.

Chris Wakeman

Chris Wakeman was born in the Dearborn, Michigan area but spent High School years in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He went to the University of Toledo and majored in Recreation and Leisure studies after changing majors from Education. There he earned a BS and a MA in Recreation and Leisure Studies while playing football for the University. After college, Chris went to Mackinac Island and worked at Grand Hotel. Chris moved to Midland in 2010 to run the NADA hotel and conference services for Northwood University and teach in the Hospitality department. After 5 years with Northwood University, he then went to CMU for 3 years to teach full time as a faculty member (fixed-term) in the Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Department, before returning to running hotels and restaurants for 2 years. At that time, Mr. Wakeman decided to go back to school and earn his teaching certification in English and Social Studies at Saginaw Valley State University through the Accelerated Certification with Residency. He taught one year at the Zilwaukee K-8 School teaching English, Social Studies, and Math to Middle school students before coming to Saint Brigid Catholic School as the Middle School ELA and History teacher.
Chris intentionally chose to rejoin the teaching ranks because he has a passion for seeing young learners grow along with a commitment to good communication and understanding civic responsibility.
He lives with his wonderful wife and 2 great sons.
Kristi Gilbert

Kristi comes to Saint Brigid Catholic School as our 4th grade teacher, after spending 5 months as the long-term 7th grade teacher in the 2016-2017 school year. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Some of her favorite hobbies are golfing, skiing, crafting and traveling the world!
Kristi was born and raised in Bay City and is graduate from Bay City Western. She attended Delta College before moving on to Saginaw Valley State University to finish her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She also has a minor in mathematics and integrated science.
Kristi is a active member of Our Lady of Czestochowa. She has taught religious education in the parish for 13 years and is also an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist.
LeAnne Osborn

Before attending the University of Missouri for her BS in Education, LeAnne traveled the United States on NET (National Evangelization Team), and has never lost her passion for sharing the light and love of Christ! After receiving her teaching degree, LeAnne taught Math, Science, Literature and Religion in St. Louis, MO and Dallas, TX. She has worked in parish and college ministry and has an MA in Theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. She and her husband, Dr. Dan Osborn, and their children, feel blessed to call the diocese of Saginaw home.

Karen Kozerski

Karen and her husband Gary have been married for 32 years and are parishioners of Blessed Sacrament. They have two sons. Andrew, who is in his third year of physical therapy school and plans to receive his DPT in May 2025, and Peter, who plans to graduate in December 2024 with a mechanical engineering degree.
Karen is an ASHA certified Speech Language Pathologist. After tutoring reading students at the Legacy Center for many years, she decided to pursue additional education related to reading. Karen recently graduated from the University of Florida's graduate dyslexia certificate program and is in the process of receiving certification as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Interventionist (SLDI).
Heather Crawford

A Saint Brigid Catholic School alumni herself, Heather joined the staff as a playground supervisor in 2009 after closing her home daycare. She has been a teacher’s aide since 2010 and presently assists Kindergarten. Heather is proud to be fourth generation parishioner. She and her husband, David, have two daughters who also attended Saint Brigid Catholic School.
Dottie Norris
After School Care Program - Lead Teacher/Librarian/Reading Support Teacher/Playground Supervisor
Dottie Norris is our After School Care Director, Librarian, Playground Supervisor, and one of our Reading Support Teachers. She moved to Midland after graduating from Central Michigan University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Development. Dottie worked at Blessed Sacrament School as the Preschool teacher for 28 years and the After School Care program director for several years. Saint Brigid became her family's home Parish in 2003, when her son started Elementary school. Dottie enjoys being outdoors, reading, and spending time with her family.
Jerry Cain

Jerry graduated with from Mid Michigan Community College with an Associates Degree in Computer Information Systems. He started working for The Dow Chemical Company in 1997 as a member of the Direct Operations Network Team. He continued his career with EDS, working at the Dow account and eventually retiring from IBM as the Regional Service Delivery Manager for multiple accounts. Before retirement, Jerry started working part-time at St. Brigid as their Coordinator of Technology and continues in this role today.
God blessed Jerry and Deborah with a wonderful daughter, Rachael Anne. Rachael attended St. Brigid Catholic School from Kindergarten through 8th grade, and she continues to actively volunteer in various capacities with the youth groups at the parish, reflecting the family's commitment to their community. Jerry currently volunteers for the Knights of Columbus and servers as the Grand Knight. He also holds other leadership roles, including the 4th Degree Honor Guard.
Tracy Glomski
Cook
A native of Nebraska, Tracy worked for many years as a licensed massage therapist before moving to Midland in 2019, with her husband Dan, to help care for family members. She joined the staff of St. Brigid School as a cook in 2022. Her home parish is Blessed Sacrament Church, where she volunteers as a lector, livestream operator, and mentor for the Catholic Adult Religious Experience group. Tracy’s favorite forms of prayer are scriptio divina and the Liturgy of the Hours. In her free time, she enjoys road cycling, nature walks, and wrangling a small flock of rescue parrots.

Judyth Peterson
Middle School Band
Since 2009, Midland native Judyth Peterson has brought a wealth of musical expertise to the Saint Brigid band program. She holds a Music Education degree from Michigan State University where she was a percussion major and member of the Spartan Marching Band. She worked with high school band camps throughout the state and at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, touring Europe with their International Orchestra.
Ms. Peterson taught band in Ft. Wayne, Indiana before returning to Midland to become the Business Manager of the Midland Symphony Orchestra, a position she held for 20 years. She set the all-time MSO attendance record and developed educational programs reaching thousands across the region. During that time, she continued to teach music as the drumline instructor at Midland High School. There she created a program that attracted unprecedented numbers to the MHS bands. She has been honored as a Chemic for Life and homecoming Grand Marshal.
With the staff of the Northern Aurora Drum & Bugle Corps, Judyth toured on the national competition circuit for two summers. She was a charter member of Midland’s Resonators Percussion Ensemble, performing around the community for over a decade. As a commissioned Lay Minister at Blessed Sacrament Parish, she directed the handbell choir, served in adult formation, RCIA, and liturgy, and traveled to Israel with the late Bishop Kenneth Untener.
Ms. Peterson left the MSO in 2006 to open a private percussion studio. Her students have scored superior ratings at state festivals and auditions, going on to college marching bands and earning music degrees. She recently retired her Midland High position after 38 years of audacious drumming. She continues to perform in the MSU Alumni Band and is a Past President of the MSU Alumni Club of Midland County.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Judyth provides respite care for adults with disabilities through the Arnold Center. She is a doting aunt and Godmother, avid sports fan, and recites annually at the Midland Reads Poetry event. She can be found cheering on her beloved Spartans, working out at the Community Center, pedaling her Trek 1220 and paddle boarding around Michigan waters. Always inspired by the students of Saint Brigid School, she thrives on making music with the “small but mighty” Shamrock Bands.
