Chris Wakeman was born in the Dearborn, Michigan area but spent High School years in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He went to the University of Toledo and majored in Recreation and Leisure studies after changing majors from Education. There he earned a BS and a MA in Recreation and Leisure Studies while playing football for the University. After college, Chris went to Mackinac Island and worked at Grand Hotel. Chris moved to Midland in 2010 to run the NADA hotel and conference services for Northwood University and teach in the Hospitality department. After 5 years with Northwood University, he then went to CMU for 3 years to teach full time as a faculty member (fixed-term) in the Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Department, before returning to running hotels and restaurants for 2 years. At that time, Mr. Wakeman decided to go back to school and earn his teaching certification in English and Social Studies at Saginaw Valley State University through the Accelerated Certification with Residency. He taught one year at the Zilwaukee K-8 School teaching English, Social Studies, and Math to Middle school students before coming to Saint Brigid Catholic School as the Middle School ELA and History teacher. Chris intentionally chose to rejoin the teaching ranks because he has a passion for seeing young learners grow along with a commitment to good communication and understanding civic responsibility. He lives with his wonderful wife and 2 great sons.
